Occupations in Skyrim

• Miner - Mining is an activity in Skyrim that involved extracting ores from veins found in mines and various locations around the province. In order to be able to extract ore from a vein you will need to have a pickaxe(or rocksplitter/notched pickaxe) on hand. Once you’ve extracted the ore you can take them to a smelter and have them smelted into ingots, which are then used for making and improving weapons. Veins typically yield three pieces of ore, and there is a small chance of getting a random, level-dependant gem as well. After a certain amount of time, the mined vein will respawn and become usable again.

• Hunter - There are many, many animals to be found in the vastness of Skyrim. Just to name a few there are deer, rabbits, bears, saber cats, goats and many more. Each of these has different varations based on sex, color and other things. To be a hunter you simply have to hunt these animals to obtain their pelts, meat and any other useful items that can be found dependent on the animal you are hunting. These pelts, meats, etc. can be, in turn, sold or used for various purposes. For example, pelts are often used in smithing to make leather.

• Explorer – This is commonly concidered the easiest and most obvious occupation in the game. Being an explorer means you roam across the landscape in search of caves, dungeons and holds that you haven’t visited and scavenge the area. There are varying degrees and definitions of what a explorer actually is, or does, but as will all roleplaying it is up to you and your personal perception to decide. The basic idea is that you mean to survey the entire landmass and leave no location unexamined. The loot doesn’t hurt either.

• Mercenary –Mercenaries are fighters for hire. They are different from assassins in that they have more moral influence and can move from one alliance to the next more freely. To be a successful mercenary in Skyrim means you report to Factions and particular peoples within Skyrim and assist them in various way, usually involving fighting. The Companions are a good example of a mercenary group and a good outlet for the occupation, but they aren’t the only ones by far. Take a good look around and you’ll find plenty of ways to put that sword of yours to use and get paid in the process.

  1. Its a shame this blog seems to be dead. I'm a big roleplayer myself, granted with many mods to make the experience more immersive and realistic. I think more people should try this out.
